Mayor Bloomberg and FDNY officials have met to discuss the upcoming budget. The FDNY has been told like many other city agencies, to expect significant cuts to close the budget gap.
Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano has said , "We've received no assurances that anything is safe. Everything is up for discussion." Which means the possibility of firehouse closures is in sight.
The 16 firehouses that were in line to meet the chopping block during last years budget talks which were spared by last minute funds from City Council are now again being considered.
The concern now becomes that of a major public safety issue.
