Possibly NYC Best Sandwich: The Bomb

Next Saturday marks the first Serious Eats All-Star Sandwich Festival, where restaurant heavyweights (like Torrisi and Locanda Verde) will serve up bread-y concoctions on Governors Island. Tickets are still on sale, but yesterday, we asked readers to make a case for their favorite sandwich in New York, with a pair of tickets going to the best response. We closed the polls this morning, and we’ve got a winner!

Here now, the winner describes “The Bomb” from Sal, Kris and Charlie’s in Astoria:

“It is delicious and it is massive (easily feeds two or three people) for only 7 bucks (it might be a whopping $7.50 now). While huge, and filled with almost everything in the deli case, it still has a great balance of flavors and textures. This is hard to pull off with so many ingredients. Nothing seems out of place, or missing. The Bomb is a marvel of sandwich engineering. The bread is always fresh, and holds up amazingly well against all the fillings. Nine times out of 10, there are firemen or cops there, and come on, it’s served at a place called Sal, Kris and Charlie’s.”

Such a detailed description inspires both hunger and a want (nay, a need!) to consume said sandwich. [The Feast]
