Nike will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the classic Air Max 97 shoe this fall with the release of 13 new colorways of the timeless sneaker.
Nike‘s 20th anniversary release will begin at the top of August with the launch of the Air Max 97 OG in black/white and white/black. A slew of colorful premium Air Max 97s will follow the OG release and Nike will close out the celebratory launch with the drop of the Ultra 97s in variation of dark hues. Featuring details and aesthetics that have made the Air Max 97 popular after all these years, the shoes will include a slight change with the addition of the Air-Sole PSI.
Considered one of Nike’s most popular shoes, the Air Max 97 debuted in August of 1997 with the release of the metallic silver iteration, which was then priced at $150. Several other iterations followed the metallic silver drop and Nike eventually used the sneakers’ canvas as an inspiration for future Air Max models. As the popularity of the shoe grew, Nike was later tapped by famed fashion labels and streetwear companies for collabs on the innovative shoe, with the first collaborative sneaker releasing in 2004 with San Francisco’s retail shop True.
The 13 new Air Max 97s by Nike will start to release beginning Tues., Aug. 1, with more launches all through the month of August.
