Under The Bridge: The High Line’s Parking Lot Full of Beer

Your wish has finally been granted.

Today, at long last, we come to you with word of a 40,000-square-foot vacant parking lot.

Deep breaths… Stay calm. This is huge, people.

Especially if you like your paved blacktops to have a beer hall, mobile smorgasbord and psychedelic inflatable mushroom kingdom.

Welcome to The Lot on Tap, an asphalt jungle of hand-pulled pints that’s waiting at the end of the High Line, opening tomorrow.

See, for this summer (and this summer only), the barren, steel-girder-shaded space below the High Line’s newest section is being transformed. Support beams have been ripped down and repurposed as a 350-seat outdoor taproom. Lunch trucks have been sequestered by Tom Colicchio and rounded into a movable food court. Urban wastelands have been altered into art installations that look exactly like World 1-1 from Super Mario Bros.

For you, this all amounts to a temporary public plaza where you’ll conclude strolls up the High Line with a celebratory Taim falafel, a top-loaded Red Hook lobster roll and a Brooklyn High Line Elevated Wheat, a new beer made from only New York ingredients.

Our malted barley is kind of a big deal.
