Just in time for its 160th birthday, skincare brand Kiehl’s has announced that it will be opening its first full-service spa. Named Spa 1851, the beauty retreat will occupy the second floor of Kiehl’s new Upper East Side space, which will edge out the Meatpacking District shop as the latest Kiehl’s location when it debuts next month.
Although the spa sits at 64th and Lexington, Kiehl’s reps say that it will reflect the brand’s roots as an old-fashioned East Village apothecary. In terms of services, that means natural ingredients and personalized attention. In terms of decor, it means tin ceilings, subway tiles, and lighting fixtures that look like the ones in the flagship—though all the old-timey appeal will be balanced with modern touches like energy-efficient lighting and a rainforest photo mural by David LaChapelle.
