When news broke a while back about the beer and provisions shop that Beer Table‘s Justin Phillips will open in Grand Central Terminal, he had not yet secured the store’s liquor license. Well, now Phillips tells us his permissions are in place and he hopes to open the shop before the July 4 holiday weekend. “Because it’s a grocery beer license, I have to do about 50 percent food,” Phillips said. He’ll carry pickles and sauerkraut from Rick’s Picks and other local purveyors (some of it sold in bulk out of fermenting pots), as well as “really good dried beans,” spices, vinegars, and baked goods: Mostly “things you would use in a dish alongside beer.” As for the suds, 65 bottles will focus on international brews, and he’ll offer six draft-line selections for growlers and — this is our favorite detail by far — reusable Beer Table Pantry cups designed with thirsty commuters in mind. Kegger on Metro-North!
