It was just another regular, multiracial day downtown at Criminal Court, all walks of life clearly represented here (hispanic, black, white and asian).

This was the scene at Centre Street this past Monday while waiting to pay off some fines. These men were all awaiting the judge to receive their community service sentences for  petty drug charges, violent crimes etc.

According to Mayor Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Kelly, 2008 murders and robberies were the only major crimes that had a slight increase. Other felony crimes, led by an 8 percent drop in the assault rate, fell and the overall crime rate dropped by 4 percent.
